Anthony Blinken said that any use of nuclear weapons by Moscow would have disastrous consequences for the Russian leader personally, as well as for Russia as a whole.
Any use of nuclear weapons by Russian President Vladimir Putin would have disastrous consequences for him and his country. This is what US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said as part of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Germany, reports on Friday, November 4, CNN.
“Together with the G7, countries around the world have made it clear to President Putin that any use of nuclear weapons would be a disaster for him and for Russia,” Blinken said.
The secretary also spoke about the G7’s cap on Russian oil prices, which is a key way the alliance is trying to punish Russia for invading Ukraine.
He played down fears that such a mechanism could backfire and raise gas prices amid Kremlin threats to stop oil sales to countries that impose price caps.
“This is to ensure that energy continues to flow to the market to meet demand. And secondly, to limit President Putin’s ability to line his pockets with energy revenues to fuel and fund the war against Ukraine. I believe this mechanism will help us do just that.” Blinken said.
As reported, the ministers of the G7 countries in a joint statement following the meeting said that the G7 is ready to respond to any use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons by the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Washington said that they did not observe Russia’s preparations for the possible use of nuclear weapons in response to this media information.
