The EU will continue to adhere to its position regarding support for Ukraine and the policy of sanctions against the Russian Federation, Charles Michel assured.
The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and urged him to allow people to leave the besieged Mariupol. Michel reported this on Twitter on Friday, April 22.
“I talked to President Putin. I continued to encourage him in an immediate humanitarian corridor from Mariupol and other surrounding cities, especially on the eve of Orthodox Easter,” Michel said.
The head of the European Council also stressed that the EU continues to follow its position regarding support for Ukraine, policy of sanctions against the Russian Federation, as well as condemning Russia’s aggression.
“Our unity, principles and values are inviolable,” he concludes.
Recall that there were about 1,000 civilians in Mariupol at the Azovstal plant. But Russian troops opened the corridor only for the surrender of the Ukrainian military.
It was also reported that Russia has renounced the “Easter truce” in Ukraine. The Kremlin considers the calls for a ceasefire to be “false and dishonest” and does not intend to stop “special operations.”
