Finland should use the weapons to strengthen land and air defense capabilities in northern Europe.
The White House administration has approved the potential sale of approximately $535 million worth of guided multiple launch rocket systems to Finland. CNN reported this on Wednesday, November 2, citing a message from the US State Department.
It noted that the arms sale would support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a “reliable partner.”
It is important to US national interests to help Finland develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability.
The State Department added that Finland should use weapons to strengthen its ground and air defense potential in northern Europe.
The decision to sell the arms comes amid negotiations to approve Finland’s entry into NATO.
It was previously reported that Finland would allow NATO to deploy nuclear weapons on Russia’s border.
Recall that the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO has already been approved by 28 member countries of the Alliance out of 30 (except Turkey and Hungary).
