Poles are stepping up security measures on the Russian border due to the opening of Kaliningrad airport for flights from the Middle East and North Africa.
Poland’s Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak decided to immediately start building barriers on the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. He said this in a press conference, according to the PAP.
The Polish Ministry of Defense is significantly strengthening security measures on the Russian border due to the opening of the Kaliningrad airport for flights from the Middle East and North Africa.
Blaschak said that in connection with the likely increase in the flow of refugees to Kaliningrad, the border should be “sealed”, and the work on creating a continuous barrier will begin immediately. The decision on this was taken at the Committee on Security and Defense of the Council of Ministers of Poland.
The fence will be similar to the one built along the Belarusian border – three rows of barbed wire 2.5 meters high and 3 meters wide. In addition, border monitoring will be provided through electronic means of monitoring. PLN 354 million is provided for this.
Until November 15, the Polish border service must provide proposals from contractor companies.
It was previously reported that the Polish authorities intend to demand from Russia compensation for the damage caused by the Soviet Union during World War II.
