The Coast Guard warned vessels in the region of the risk of collision with rocket debris.
North Korea launched an unidentified ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan, according to Wednesday, November 2, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Similar information was published by the Japanese Kyodo with reference to the government.
It is known that the launch took place at a time when South Korea was conducting joint exercises with the United States.
Yonhap noted that the rocket headed for South Korea’s Ulleungdo island before crashing into the Sea of Japan. An air alert was issued on the island.
The annual large-scale exercises of South Korea and the United States ended in the region, within the framework of which, among other things, the landing in the Sea of Japan was carried out. More than 6,000 military personnel, 40 amphibious assault vehicles, 50 aircraft and helicopters, and ten ships took part in the maneuvers.
The previous launch was on October 28 when North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan.
