“The challenges that Ukraine’s energy sector must overcome are, of course, enormous. It is surprising that the energy system has remained almost fully functional until this autumn, during these months of war. And even now, despite of the fact that Russia is leading its strikes. against the energy infrastructure, Ukraine has managed to restore a large part of the damaged capacities,” he said.
Simson noted that this is a testament to the extraordinary resilience and courage of people working in the Ukrainian energy sector.
He assured that the European Union will provide assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector.
“Since the spring, we have been providing specifically targeted assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector. Regarding the equipment, tools and materials needed to repair and restore the energy infrastructure, we are working in three areas: donations from in Member States, donations from private companies and a fund created by the Energy Community for financial assistance at my request,” said Simson.
According to him, we are talking about tens of millions of euros of aid, which have already been delivered or are being given, “but, of course, more is needed, because of the Russian strikes and the coming winter.”
On the eve it became known that 12 countries will provide assistance to Ukraine to restore the energy system. We are talking about deliveries of about a thousand units of electrical equipment.
