When asked why he did not visit Kyiv, the Pope replied that he could not take actions dangerous to higher goals.
The Vatican had to postpone a meeting with Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, scheduled for June. This was announced by Pope Francis in an interview with the Argentine edition of LaNacion.
According to the Pope, he regrets that the meeting will not take place.
When asked why he did not visit Kyiv, the Pope replied that he could not take actions that would jeopardize higher goals, such as an end to the war, a ceasefire or a humanitarian corridor.
“What is the use of the fact that the Pope will go to Kyiv if the next day the war continues?” said Francis.
According to him, he is ready for anything, if only there were no deaths in Ukraine.
It will be recalled that Pope Francis called on Moscow and Kyiv to end an Easter truce in Ukraine.
It was also reported that during the Easter Mass, the Pope prayed in Ukrainian.
