“We not only smell steel for bulletproof vests, but we also buy this steel in Europe, deliver it to Ukraine, and then cut such plates for bulletproof vests. vests. Now we are importing and smelting steel enough for 80,000 bulletproof vests. Most of these plates are already being transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, “he said.
According to him, the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, formerly part of Metinvest, became a symbol of resistance to the occupiers, making a weapon for the entire USSR.
Ryzhenko noted that in Ukraine they cannot make helmets for the military. so they have to buy. “We have already purchased about 10,000 helmets, and they are already being delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to the territorial defense,” he said.
The director of Metinvest said that the company maintains communication with the General Staff and the commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in terms of military provision.
“They tell us where better to supply both bulletproof vests and helmets. And, yesterday, for example, we supplied drones. That means we are in full communication with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and responding to their needs, ”Ryzhenkov stressed. .
In addition, he said that more than 3,000 employees of the company have been drafted into the ranks of defenders: their company also provides all the necessary protective equipment.
Recall that after the start of the war in Russia, Metinvest launched the manufacture of special steel plates for body armor with a high level of protection. The military will be given 900 tons of steel free of charge, which will be enough to produce approximately 80,000 body armor. Also, 10,000 body armor, more than 8,000 helmets, approximately 25,000 medical tourniquets, turnstiles and first aid kits, as well as 1,100 thermal imagers, were purchased.
