Poland and South Korea have agreed to build a nuclear power plant. Bloomberg reported this.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), the South Korean state-owned nuclear power plant operator, has signed an agreement of intent with Polish utilities PGE SA and ZE PAK SA for the construction of APR-1400 nuclear reactors at ZE PAK coal- fired power plant in Patnow.
According to the document, by the end of 2022, the companies will present a more detailed plan for the construction of reactors with exact figures for the project’s budget and funding sources. The number of reactors will be determined later.
It is assumed that KHNP could build six reactors in Poland with a total capacity of 8.4 GW and cost $26.7 billion.
In addition, South Korea’s Ministry of Energy signed a separate memorandum of understanding with Poland’s Ministry of Treasury to support the project and exchange information to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Recall that for the construction of its first nuclear power plant, Poland chose the American electrical company Westinghouse.
