The family of Santiago Sanchez Cogedor, a Spaniard who went on foot to FIFA World Cup in Qatarmissing in Iran, told EFE on Thursday that he has been detained by Iranian authorities and is in good health.

Information provided to the family Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spainconfirmed by diplomatic sources.

Oslo-based Kurdish-Iranian opposition group Hengau Human Rights Organization said on its website that Sanchez was arrested “about three weeks ago” Iranian Ministry of Intelligence along with an Iranian citizen who, according to this page, acted as his interpreter.

According to Hengaw, Santiago Sanchez, who is also a former paratrooper in the Spanish army, was being held in a temporary detention facility. Iranian intelligence in Sanandajwhich is the capital of the Iranian province Kurdistan.

The family hopes this release will happen as soon as possible and trusts the efforts of the diplomatic services, which have not confirmed Santiago’s exact whereabouts.
