The early estimate of the “narrow” amount of damage did not include the rising economic cost of war in our country.
Physical damage to buildings and infrastructure in Ukraine as a result of the invasion of the Russian Federation and the war has reached an estimated $ 60 billion. This was announced on Thursday, April 21, by World Bank President David Malpass, Reuters wrote.
He also mentioned that the value will increase as the fighting continues.
At the World Bank conference on the need for financial assistance in Ukraine, he noted that the early estimate of the “narrow” amount of damage does not include the growing economic costs of the war for our country.
“Of course, the war is still going on, so these costs are going up,” Malpass said.
In this regard, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who attended the discussion of the issue online, outlined larger costs and funding requirements. The head of state said the country needs $ 7 billion a month to recoup economic losses caused by Russia’s military aggression.
“And we’re going to need hundreds of billions of dollars to get it all back later,” Zelensky stressed.
The president also called on the world community to immediately exclude the Russian Federation from international financial institutions, including the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and others.
Earlier it was reported that the EU has allocated another 50 million euros to Ukraine for humanitarian assistance. Funding will be directed to “meet the most pressing humanitarian needs.” The total amount of EU humanitarian aid in response to the war reached 143 million euros.
According to IMF forecasts, in 2022 the state budget deficit of Ukraine will grow to 17.8% of GDP from 4% in 2021.
Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky created the National Council for the Restoration of Ukraine from the consequences of the war.
