Germany’s federal government has agreed to legalize the “recreational” use of cannabis.
The German government has agreed to legalize the “recreational” use of cannabis for adults. This was said in a briefing by Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach, according to the German edition of The Local.
The law will no longer classify cannabis and the active ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol as drugs. In particular, the purchase or possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis and the limited cultivation of cannabis at home are no longer illegal.
German adults can buy cannabis through licensed specialist shops and pharmacies.
The ruling coalition of Social Democrats (SPD), Greens and Free Democrats believes that such legalization would create a safe alternative for those who now buy cannabis on the black market, as well as reduce the profits of organized crime groups.
There is no bill yet to implement this plan. First, the German government must determine whether this project is contrary to European law.
Note that medical cannabis was legalized in Germany in 2017, with some strict precautions.
As we have already reported, from June 9, it is officially allowed to grow and use cannabis for medical purposes in Thailand.
