Norwegian marines have recently begun to record a large number of UAVs that can be launched by the Russians.
Norwegian oil and gas workers have begun recording numerous unidentified drones. In Oslo, they assumed that Russia was using it for espionage purposes. This was reported by The Associated Press.
Possible motives for such actions by Moscow are espionage, sabotage and intimidation, as Norway has replaced the Russian Federation in the European gas market.
In response, the Norwegian government sent warships, coast guard ships and fighter jets to patrol offshore installations. The Norwegian National Guard has deployed soldiers around land-based oil refineries where UAVs have been spotted.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere asked the three NATO countries – Great Britain, France and Germany – to help with the defense.
According to him, the launch of drones by the Russians can be used for intimidation or for gathering information.
Amund Revheim, head of the North Sea and Environment team at the Norwegian police, said that law enforcement had already interviewed more than 70 Norwegian sailors. The latest report that drones can be controlled from ships or submarines.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Norway has closed the airspace for Russia. In particular, it extended the ban on the control of unmanned vehicles.
It will be remembered that the son of a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin was arrested by the Norwegian police. He flew a drone on the island of Svalbard, where it is prohibited. Later it became known that we are talking about Andrey Yakunin.
