“We have agreed to allocate 9 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, which will be disbursed in installments before the end of the year. Overall, the EU has supported Ukraine in the amount of 19 billion euros since the beginning of the year . But during today’s discussion, the attention is more focused on next year, because it is very important for Ukraine to have a predictable, reliable and stable flow of income,” said von der Leyen following the second day of European Council.
He noted that according to EU estimates, as well as information from the Ukrainian government, the country will need from 3 to 4 billion euros a month next year to cover basic needs. This amount will be financed jointly by the European Union, the United States and international financial institutions.
“Therefore, the discussion concerns the allocation of 1.5 billion euros per month for Ukraine, which will be financed by the European Union. In total, it will amount to 18 billion euros next year,” said von der Leyen.
The President of the European Commission assured that this is the amount that Ukraine can count on, which will be a stable and predictable source of funds.
“We instructed the finance ministers to develop the necessary mechanism. But it is also important to send this signal to Ukraine, that we understand very well how important a reliable source of cash flows is,” he concluded.
On the eve it became known that the United States intends to accept the largest aid package to Ukraine. We are talking about the amount of $50 billion and it will be enough for the whole of 2023.
