Beatriz Gutierrez, Mexican president’s wife and head of the cultural commission, accused American designer Ralph Lauren on Thursday of plagiarizing local designs to create one of his garments.

“Hey Ralph: We have already understood that you really like the Mexican design(…). However, by copying these designs, you are plagiarizing, and as you know, plagiarism is illegal and immoral,” President Andres’ wife wrote on her Instagram account. Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Gutierrez accompanied his statement with an image of a brightly colored casual jacket displayed in the store with a “Ralph Lauren” sign.

He explained that the patterns used in the clothes correspond to the textile creations of the Contla (center) and Saltillo (north) communities.
