Russia said it was a technical malfunction, while Wallace said the UK had resumed patrols in the Black Sea.
A Russian aircraft fired a missile near a British aircraft patrolling international airspace over the Black Sea on September 29. This is what British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said, The Guardian wrote.
Wallace told Parliament that the UK had suspended patrols following the incident and expressed concern to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
He said that “an unarmed RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint aircraft was in contact with two Russian Su-27s, one of which fired a missile at the RAF Rivet Joint area out of sight.”
Russia said it was a technical malfunction and Wallace said the UK had resumed patrols. He added that patrols are now being escorted by fighter jets.
The British Defense Secretary made a statement in the House of Commons after returning from a visit to his American counterpart in Washington.
The UK has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin of “serious consequences” if he uses nuclear weapons in a war against Ukraine.
