U.S. President Joe Biden figured this Wednesday that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has run out of tools in the war in Ukraine and is left with nothing more than to brutalize Ukrainians to force them to surrender, something he says “will not happen.”
This is how the US leader positioned himself when asked by the press about the decision Insert declare from Thursday martial law in four regions of Ukraine, which were annexed on September 30: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye.
“I think Vladimir Putin is in an incredibly difficult position. Which (the declaration of martial law) reflects, in my opinion, that the only tool he seems to have left is to mistreat Ukrainian citizens to try and intimidate them into surrendering. But they are not going to do it,” he replied.
Biden in the past had very harsh words for Insertwhom he called a “butcher” in March, at the same time that he called Russia’s actions in the war “genocide” and has provided more than $17.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine since he arrived at the White House in January. 2021.
The claim is illegal
US Department of State also repeated this Wednesday post Biden and at a press conference, Deputy State Department spokesman Vedant Patel called Putin’s announcement a “desperate tactic” to control the annexed territories.
“No matter what he says or does Kremlin. It doesn’t matter what they try to do with decrees,” Patel said, stressing that Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye are “Ukrainian territories” and the Ukrainian people reject the Russian presence.
“Any claims to these territories are illegitimate,” Patel stressed.
In addition to imposing martial law, Insert announced this Wednesday the creation of territorial defense detachments in the annexed territories.
