Colombian President Gustavo Petro blamed this Wednesday USA the ruin of “all the economies of the world” in decision-making in order to protect against the already “undoubted” economic crisis.
In this sense, he criticized that because of his recent decisions, such as raising interest rates, the world economy in Latin American countries has suffered, because of which he called for the creation of a bloc of countries in the region to counter the recession.
“Russians, Ukrainians, Europeans, first of all, unleashed a war on their continent: a war for gas, for energy,” he explained, adding that “Latin America is being robbed.”
On the other hand, Petro also criticized Washington on migration, saying “they put up machine guns”, “prisons” and “walls” to prevent migrants from passing through their border. “(So) that they are treated and mistreated when they get there if they arrive alive and alive,” he pointed out.
The President of Colombia noted that Latin American countries need to achieve greater prosperity.
“How many Colombians have already died in that exodus, in a country that does not want them. The United States should understand that in order to stop the migration crisis, they need not to destroy the Latin American economies, but to help them,” the head of state explained.
Petro to buy 3 million hectares from ranchers
Gustavo Petro’s government announced that it has reached an agreement with the Colombian Cattlemen’s Federation (Fedegan) to purchase three million hectares from pastoralists to be used for agrarian reform, which the executive branch launched last month.
“The purchase of land begins with Fedeghan’s offer. The government is going to buy three million hectares from the Fedeghan,” Agriculture Minister Cecilia López said in a statement along with the Federation’s manager, José Félix Laforie. , in Bogota.
The minister explained that with this “the third component of the agrarian reform begins and starts”, of which there is already the first – “legal”.
Colombia is one of the world’s most unequal land distribution countries, and it is estimated that between seven and ten million hectares were acquired fraudulently or forcibly by various illegal groups, mostly through dispossession or displacement of peasants during the worst years of the armed conflict.
