Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier canceled a visit to Kyiv, which was supposed to take place tomorrow, October 20.
This is reported by the German edition of Bild, citing its own sources.
It is noted that the parties agreed to Steinmeier’s visit to Ukraine for weeks, and Germany decided to cancel it for security reasons.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the German security authorities advised the Federal President not to go to Kyiv. The decision to cancel the visit was made on Tuesday, the newspaper notes.
Now, probably, instead of Steinmeier’s visit to Kyiv, he will have a telephone conversation with Zelensky.
Today, October 19, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece visited Kyiv. According to the publication, another head of state is expected to visit Ukraine tomorrow.
Since October 10, Russia has been actively shelling the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine, in particular, Kyiv. In particular, several Russian missiles were shot down over Kyiv today. They could be intercepted with the help of the German IRIS-T air defense system recently received by Ukraine.
