French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced they would be taking in 2,000 soldiers from Ukraine for a few weeks and indicated they were looking into sending rocket launchers to Kyiv in an interview published this Saturday in Le Parisien.
“This is an important step that meets the basic requirements of Ukrainians. […] They will be placed in our units within a few weeks. We have already given them artillery training so that they can handle the Caesars (French-made guns), but now we are taking it a step further,” Lecornu said.
The minister explained that this decision is based on the need to “prepare a new generation of Ukrainian soldiers” for a “long-term” conflict with Russia.
“We will always do this while respecting the rule of law and without entering into conflict as allies,” he explained.
