Poland on October 19 signed an agreement to purchase 288 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems as part of an agreement with South Korea.
Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said the first 18 Chunmoos will arrive to defend eastern Poland next year, Reuters reported. The weapon is produced by the defense division of the South Korean Hanwha Corp – Hanwha Defense.
In addition to Chunmoo launchers, Poland will receive a significant number of missiles – both high-precision missiles with a range of up to 70 km, and tactical missiles with a range of about 300 km.
The agreement was concluded after the South Korean companies sent the first batch of tanks and howitzers to Poland. In July, Warsaw and Seoul signed a $5.8 billion contract that is a key part of its efforts to bolster its military forces in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Poland also agreed to buy 48 FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea. Blaszczak had previously said the planes would be delivered next year.
Poland is South Korea’s largest defense client in Europe.
