The Security Service of Ukraine denied physical violence against the mayor of Belgorod-Dnestrovsky.
The mayor of Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, Odessa region, Vitaliy Grazhdan, said he was beaten by SBU officers, while the department says the mayor himself attacked law enforcement officers during searches of his office. About this on Tuesday, October 18, writes Ukrayinska Pravda with reference to the security forces. Also, Vitaly Grazhdan himself announced the conflict with the SBU on Facebook.
“SBU officers came to me the next morning, supposedly on some kind of criminal case on violation of the conduct of war, to conduct a search. After they conducted a search, they found nothing. Protocols have been signed.
Then, when the investigative action was finished, the protocols were signed, I ask you to focus on this, we signed all the documents. I tried to leave the office, but at the same time, there were three special forces officers, they started beating me, twisting me, laying me down, while they laid me down, they hit me in the face,” said the mayor.
In this regard, representatives of the SBU, in a commentary on UP, said that the searches are related to the investigation of abuses and the reality of separatism.
“Among other things, the mayor was suspected of fraud related to compensation for damages caused to one of the district’s objects as a result of rocket fire, so law enforcement officials came to conduct search and seizure of documents confirming illegal actions.
Despite having a warrant, the mayor tried to interfere with law enforcement and provoked a fight. In order to avoid disruption of investigative and procedural actions, SBU officers applied the measure provided for by law – they handcuffed him,” the SBU explained.
At the same time, the SBU noted that there was no physical violence against the proposal.
“On the contrary, it is precisely the fact of the attack on the SBU officers that the proceedings were opened against the mayor himself,” they specified.
The SBU added that the events took place within the framework of two criminal proceedings at the same time, initiated under Part 1 of Art. 296 and Part 1, 2 Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Earlier, a law enforcement officer was detained in the Donetsk region, who demanded a 100,000 hryvnia bribe for not bringing to justice.
