The Verkhovna Rada at a meeting on October 18 recognized the Chechen Republic as temporarily occupied by Russia. It was reported on the Parliament website.
Draft Resolution No. 8132 on the Declaration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the recognition of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation and the condemnation of the genocide of the Chechen people was supported by 287 deputies.
The parliamentarians condemned the international crimes committed by Russia during the first and second Chechen wars, and also called on the UN to ensure the investigation of “international crimes committed on the territory of the temporarily occupied Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and ensure that those responsible will be brought to justice.”
Earlier, the SBU reported that the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, was notified of the suspicion of committing a number of crimes on the territory of Ukraine.
