The Canadian government has imposed new sanctions against Russia.
They included one legal entity and 34 individuals involved in the dissemination of Russian disinformation and propaganda. This was reported by the press service of the Government of Canada.
These individuals and organizations are helping the Russian regime to undermine the principles of state sovereignty and are responsible for spreading false narratives that serve as a pretext for the Russian regime’s unjustified war, the report said.
This list included the propaganda “patriotic” TV channel Zvezda, owned by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The following well-known people have also been sanctioned:
- actors Sergei Bezrukov and Vladimir Mashkov;
- TV presenter Tina Kandelaki, who openly supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Sanctions were also imposed on her children, Melania and Leonty Kondrakhin;
- TV presenter of the Russian state television Naila Asker-Zade;
- assistant to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin Vladimir Medinsky.
Since the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014, Canada has imposed sanctions against more than 1,800 individuals and entities. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 this year, more than 1.4 thousand individuals and legal entities from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine fell under Canadian sanctions.
