This is the first fully female exchange, said Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Today, October 17, more than a hundred Ukrainian women returned from captivity in Russia. This was announced by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
“We managed to carry out another large-scale exchange of prisoners today. Especially emotional and really special – we freed 108 women from captivity. This is the first full female exchange. Mothers and daughters are in captivity, that their relatives are waiting for,” said Yermak.
It was reported that 37 evacuees were from Azovstal, 11 officers, 85 privates and sergeants. Of these, 35 defenders are from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 32 from the Navy, 12 from the Troops, 8 from the NGU, including 2 from Azov, 5 from the State Service for Transport, 4 from the State Border Guard Service and 12 civilians.
“Among those released were girls illegally imprisoned in ORDLO, who were caught even before the large-scale raid. Since 2019, people have been imprisoned in pseudo-republics for “too pro-Ukrainian positions” , expressed in the transportation of humanitarian aid for orphans, distant “espionage” and “terrorism”, – said the head of the OPU.
Andriy Yermak also reported on the difficulties of exchanging prisoners.
It was a nervous exchange. There are so many details and moments that can affect the process, change its course. In exchanges, there are always many risks that must be calculated from the moment of preparation and during the process itself. There is no room for error. The president has a duty to restore everything, and it depends on the clear action of the team that our people are at home. I trust the result, because our algorithm of actions is well calculated, and the best team is engaged in the exchange, – added Yermak.
It was reported that the freed women and girls will undergo medical examination and rehabilitation.
Thanks to the excellent work of the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and all involved. Ukraine will not leave anyone behind. Because Ukrainians are the highest value of the state,” emphasized Yermak.
Remember that the Red Cross does not yet have access to Ukrainian prisoners.
