Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has expressed concern over the flood of Russians pouring into the country.
Salome Zurabishvili said that she does not rule out a revision of the visa-free regime in the Russian Federation against the background of the influx of Russians into the republic. The final decision must be made by the government of Georgia. This was reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
“I cannot say that this is a risk, but it is clearly a challenge. It is possible that we will have to change the visa-free regime, which is quite liberal in today’s conditions,” said Zurabishvili.
According to him, the final decision should be made by the government together with the society.
Earlier, Georgian opposition parties and some non-governmental organizations called on the authorities to introduce a visa regime for Russian citizens, limiting their stay in the country to three months.
Recall that after the start of the war in Ukraine, Georgia became one of the most popular destinations for the relocation of Russians. According to the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, in March-June, approximately 278 thousand Russian citizens entered it, of which approximately 50 thousand remained in the country. The “partial” mobilization announced on September 21 led to a new wave of emigration.
