How many invaders Ukraine can detain depends on its position in prisoner exchange negotiations.
Ukrainians must take as many Russian invaders as possible as prisoners in order to bring home our defenders imprisoned in Russia. This was announced on Sunday, October 16, by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in his speech.
“Separately, I would like to note today the units that gave us a result in the replenishment of the exchange fund. This is very important: everyone who takes the Russian military gives us the opportunity to release our heroes,” he said .
In particular, the President thanked the 54th separate reconnaissance battalion named Mykhailo Tisha, the 80th separate air assault brigade and the 92nd separate mechanized brigade, which significantly increased Ukraine’s ability to return its citizens to their homes during the offensive.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine remembers our people imprisoned in the Russian Federation.
“We must free them and we must free them all, leave nothing to the enemy. But for this we must capture the invaders – as much as possible,” added the president.
Recall that Ukraine was able to conduct another exchange of prisoners of war and free 20 soldiers from captivity.
According to the authorities, about 2.5 thousand Ukrainians are in Russian captivity.
