Head of Intelligence United KingdomJeremy Fleming said Tuesday that Western countries may not be able to see a possible Russian nuclear attack in time.
“One would like to think that with our allies we would have a good chance of finding it, but of course there are never guarantees in this space,” Fleming said during a security conference, according to a British newspaper. Telegraph.
According to the Chief of Government Communications Staff (GCHQ), Russia it is “the only nation” that talks about the use of nuclear weapons, a fact she called “extremely dangerous.”
For this reason, Fleming recalled that the “veiled nuclear threats” of the Russian president Vladimir Putin they were “dangerous and irresponsible”, while at the same time he claimed that the Kremlin was aware that a nuclear war was “impossible to win”.
Similarly, Fleming highlighted the words of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who clarified that the defense alliance is “closely watching” Russia’s nuclear forces.
Despite Fleming’s claims, the British government declined to explain how it would react to a Russian nuclear attack, the newspaper reported.
Russia does not rule out the use of nuclear weapons
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow “does not threaten anyone with the use of nuclear weapons” and accused the United States and its allies of actively using nuclear rhetoric.
“Once again, it must be clarified that Russia does not threaten anyone with the use of nuclear weapons,” Ryabkov said in an interview with the official Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
He explained that “against the background of events in UkraineThe United States and its dependent countries are actively using nuclear rhetoric” and are trying to present the situation as if Russia is ready to use weapons of mass destruction.
Ryabkov emphasized that Moscow’s policy in the field of nuclear deterrence provides for the use of nuclear weapons in the event of receiving reliable information about the launch of ballistic missiles against Russia or its allies, or attacks against them with nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction.
Ukraine asks to “limit” electricity consumption
The Ukrainian government has urged the public to “limit” their electricity consumption following a wave of Russian bombings the day before against energy infrastructure in several regions.
“Today we are asking you to limit your electricity consumption. Also, during peak hours – from 17:00 to 23:00 – do not turn on devices that consume a lot of energy,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shimgal wrote on Telegram.
The Ukrainian leader called “electric stoves, electric kettles” and “radiators, ovens and irons, microwave ovens, coffee machines, washing machines and dishwashers.”
