The alliance said the timing of their hold was unrelated to Russia’s latest provocative actions.
NATO will begin its annual Steadfast Noon nuclear exercise in Europe on Monday 17 October. They will last 13 days. This was announced on Friday, October 14, by the press service of the Alliance.
NATO said it planned to use up to 60 aircraft during the exercises. Among them are American B-52 bombers, fourth and fifth generation fighters, as well as reconnaissance and tanker aircraft. They will conduct training flights in Belgium, the North Sea and the UK.
At the same time, the timing of their holding is not connected with the latest provocative actions of Russia.
“The exercises, which will last until October 30, are a routine, repetitive exercise and are not related to any current world events,” the Alliance emphasized.
According to NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu, these exercises help ensure that “the Alliance’s nuclear deterrent remains reliable, secure and effective.”
Note that NATO exercises may coincide with Russia’s Grom nuclear exercises.
It was previously reported that 14 NATO member countries and aircraft capable of carrying nuclear warheads, but without the use of warheads with nuclear warheads, will participate in the annual Steadfast Noon exercises.
The purpose of the exercise is to ensure that relevant Alliance personnel and equipment are prepared for the worst-case scenario. In the current conditions – to provide Alliance members with a “sense of security.”
