President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to a petition to ban the granting of Ukrainian citizenship to Russian publicist Alexander Nevzorov.
The head of state recalled that according to the Constitution, the president decides whether to accept citizenship or terminate it, and the grounds and procedures for granting citizenship are considered by the authorities.
According to him, citizenship cannot be obtained by a person who committed a crime against humanity or committed genocide, has a criminal record in Ukraine for a grave or especially serious crime (until the expiration or expiration of a criminal record, as well as a person who has committed an act on the territory of another state recognized in Ukraine as a grave or especially serious crime).serious crime.
Zelensky also emphasized that the grounds and procedures for obtaining citizenship are determined by law and are the same for everyone. At the same time, the authorities must act only within the limits of their powers.
The President promised to also inform about the results of consideration of the issues presented in the petition.
