The head of EU diplomacy acknowledged shortcomings in the bloc’s security policy and noted Ukraine’s successful resistance.
The European Union did not believe the US warnings about the Russian attack on Ukraine. This is what EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said in his speech at the meeting of ambassadors in Brussels, European Pravda reported on October 12.

“The war in Ukraine continues. We did not think how effectively Ukraine would fight. And we did not believe that there would be a war. I must admit that when the Americans told us: “They (the Russians) will attack,” we reluctantly believe it,” said Borrell.
According to him, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on the phone and said: “It will happen this weekend.”
“And two days later they began to bomb Kyiv. But we do not believe that this will happen, and do not assume that Ukraine is ready to fight as fiercely and as successfully as it does. Of course, thanks to our military support, without it will be impossible, but the Ukrainians, for their part, have made efforts,” said the head of European diplomacy.
He also admitted that the EU does not expect mass mobilization in the Russian Federation and is open to nuclear threats from President Vladimir Putin.
“I think all of you have read and re-read Putin’s last speech when he announced the annexation. Every citizen of Europe should read this speech – and especially you. You should explain to the world what is meant by his attitude towards the West and what was the real reason for the war,” Borrell insisted.
Earlier, the head of European diplomacy said that the President of the Russian Federation expects the Western world to be more tired of the war in Ukraine.
