The United States of America has warned Hong Kong about the dangers of not complying with sanctions against Putin’s allies.
Hong Kong could damage its reputation as an international financial center if it provides a safe haven to people who evade sanctions. The United States issued the warning after city officials said they would take no action against the superyacht, which is reportedly owned by an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Saturday, October 8, the Voice of America reports.

“The possible use of Hong Kong as a safe haven by multi-jurisdictional sanctions evaders further calls into question the transparency of the business environment,” a State Department spokesman said.
We are talking about the yacht Nord – a luxurious vessel with a length of 142 meters and worth $ 500 million, which is associated with the Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov. This week the yacht arrived in Hong Kong waters.
The yacht Nord, which boasts two helipads, a movie theater and more than a dozen luxury cabins, changed its flag from the Cayman Islands to Russia in June.
Nord anchored in Vladivostok before sailing to Hong Kong.
Mordashov is among oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin who have been placed on Western sanctions lists since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier, Russian billionaire Alexei Kuzmichev won a case against French customs regarding one of his yachts, La Petite Ourse, which was detained under anti-Russian sanctions in mid-March.
