The German Defense Minister has announced new arms shipments to Ukraine, including a total of 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia.
Germany announced an additional supply of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, it promises to send 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia. This was announced by German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht during a visit to German troops stationed in Lithuania on Saturday, October 8, CNN reports.
He promised that Ukraine will receive the IRIS-T air defense system, and a total of 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia.
In addition, Lambrecht noted that NATO countries need to work on strengthening their defenses.
“We live in serious times, and in such times it is also important to know where we have gaps in protection. Air defense is an area where it is necessary to act urgently,” he said.
The minister added that in the face of increased security threats, Germany will also create a new armored infantry brigade that can be quickly deployed in Lithuania if necessary.
It should be noted that the German media has already offered Germany to share the burden of providing Ukraine with armored vehicles by creating an appropriate tank consortium with 12 partners.
It should be noted that the German government named various factors preventing the transfer of heavy weapons to Ukraine. In particular, training the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use these tanks or fear of escalation of the conflict with Russia.
