Turkey reduced gas imports from Russia by 37.2%, increasing purchases from Iran and Azerbaijan.
Turkey began rejecting Russian gas in favor of other suppliers. In July, the import of fuel from the Russian Federation decreased by 37.2%. Anadolu reported this in connection with the monthly report of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA).
At the same time, Turkey increased purchases from Iran and Azerbaijan by 37.5% and 31.5%, respectively.
At the same time, the Russian Federation remained the leader in gas supplies to the country, providing it with 1.44 billion cubic meters of gas, while Iran and Azerbaijan reached 870 and 710 million cubic meters of imports, according to respectively.
Overall, Turkey bought 15.7% less gas in July 2022 compared to the same month in 2021. Imports fell from 4.05 to 3.41 billion cubic meters.
According to EMRA, during the month the country received approximately 3.02 billion cubic meters of gas through pipelines and another 383 million cubic meters – by sea in liquefied form. Such indicators indicate a decrease in pipeline imports by 13%, LNG imports – by 32.6%.
At the same time, Turkey was able to reduce its total gas consumption by 27.5% yoy to 2.78 billion cubic meters. In addition, the country has increased fuel reserves – the amount of gas in storage in July 2022 increased by 20.6%, to 3.37 billion cubic meters.
