Thanks to the agreement, Hungary will be able to pay Gazprom with a delay of almost two billion euros.

Russian Gazprom has given Hungary a 1.9 billion euro deferral for gas payments, Bloomberg wrote, citing sources.

Earlier, Budapest said it had received a three-year deferment from Gazprom on payments due over a six-month period, but did not disclose details.

According to the publication, under the terms of the agreement, in the first year, Hungary will pay 20% of the payment amount, which will be deferred, and then pay 40% in the next two years. Deferred payment will be made at 3.5%.

It was noted that during the winter of 2022/23, excluding delays, Hungary will have to pay 4 billion euros for Russian gas.

As you know, among Hungarians there is a growing number of those who are dissatisfied with the pro-Russian foreign policy of Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the context of the war in Ukraine. In particular, Budapest continues to block EU decisions on sanctions against Russian energy resources.

In turn, the Kremlin praises Orban for his pro-Russian policy.
