A new commander was appointed in the Western Military District of the Russian Federation – Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov. This was reported by RBC, citing its sources.
It is reported that Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov was once the commander of the combined arms formation of the Eastern Military District, and later commanded a group of Russian troops in Syria. Berdnikov graduated in 1991 from the Kyiv Suvorov Military School.
RBC also reported that retired Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev commanded the forces of the Western Military District since 2018, and before that, like Berdnikov, he commanded a group of forces in Syria.
Since the early days of the war against Ukraine, Russia has been bombarding Kharkiv with banned cluster munitions that have destroyed homes and killed civilians in an instant. Colonel-General of the Russian Army Alexander Zhuravlev, who previously led one of the most brutal Russian operations in the Syrian war, ordered the actions of the invaders to capture the city.
