Ukraine’s desire to become a member of the Union is “optimistic, energetic and determined,” said EU Ambassador Matti Maasikas.
Ukraine’s ambition to join the European Union in two years is “optimistic, energetic and determined”. This was said by EU Ambassador Matti Maasikas, who assesses the prospects for the country’s accession to the EU, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, published on Monday, October 3.
Thus, the European diplomat responded to the statement of the Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal that Ukraine hopes to go all the way to join the EU within two years.
“It is optimistic, energetic and decisive. And this is the way we want it, right? EU enlargement is a process based on achievements. Much of what needs to be done depends on the candidate country,” he said .
According to him, after receiving the status of an EU candidate, Ukraine should do its “homework” with the help of the European Union.
“Then the European Commission will review the progress made. For now, I can only quote the words of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her recent (September 15, – ed.) visit to Kyiv: the assessment will be next year, and then we will see,” said Maasikas.
Remember, Zelensky said that he has no doubts: within two to three years, Ukraine will receive membership in the European Union.
In addition, the head of state previously announced the tasks of Ukraine for EU membership.
