The restrictions reinforce Canberra’s strong protest against the actions of the Kremlin and those following its orders.
In response to Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine, Australian authorities have imposed new sanctions against the aggressor country. On Sunday, October 2, Reuters reported in relation to the country’s Foreign Ministry.
As indicated, this time 28 separatists, ministers and senior officials appointed by Russia fell under the restrictions. The sanctions will affect financial transactions, as well as travel to Australia.
“These additional sanctions reinforce Australia’s strong protest against the actions of President Putin and those following his orders,” Foreign Minister Penny Wong was quoted as saying by the agency.
The diplomat reiterated what he said earlier that the Ukrainian lands, currently occupied by Russian troops, are the sovereign territory of Ukraine and no imaginary referendum will change that.
Recall that the United States has also imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation for the annexation of Ukrainian territories. The “black” list includes 14 representatives of Russia’s military-industrial complex, three key leaders of the financial infrastructure, relatives of some officials and 278 members of the State Duma.
