The Moscow Exchange Index in rubles rose 0.3% to 1,959.4 points. The RTS dollar index rose 5.5%.

The exchange rate of the Russian ruble rose to a maximum in eight years against the euro – by 6.5%. On Friday, September 30, the ruble traded at 51.87, the highest level since mid-October 2014. This was reported by Reuters.

The ruble also gained 4.8% against the dollar at 54.44, hitting its strongest point since July 1.

The threat of sanctions has caused some investors to reduce their dollar holdings, analysts said, fearing that the restrictions could paralyze Russian dollar trade.

“In addition to the impact on the trade balance, we note the situation with increased expectations of sanctions. Companies may accelerate the sale of foreign currency from their foreign accounts,” the newspaper wrote.

It was noted that geopolitical pressure caused the Moscow Exchange index to fall on September 26 to its lowest level since February 24, the day Russia invaded Ukraine. Today, the index of the Moscow Exchange in rubles rose by 0.3% to 1,959.4 points. The RTS dollar index rose 5.5% to 1131.6 points.

Earlier it was reported that the ruble began to fall after the appeal of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the announcement of partial mobilization in the Russian Federation,

It will be recalled that the United States announced the closure of the “Russian” exchange-traded fund.
