The “votes” were held in territories occupied by Russian troops, so they were not legitimate, António Guterres said.

The United Nations will not recognize the illegal “referendum” held by Russia in the occupied territories of Ukraine. About that expressed UN Secretary General António Guterres on his Twitter on Friday, September 30.

“The so-called “referendum” in Ukraine was held in the territories occupied by Russia. They cannot be called a true expression of the will of the people,” he stressed.

The head of the organization also added that any decision by the Kremlin to “proceed” with the annexation of the occupied territories “endangers the prospects for peace.”

Recall that following the results of the “referendum” the head of the ruling regime of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin recognized the “independence” of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.

The adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak noted that the announcement of the “admission” of the temporarily occupied territories to the Russian Federation will not affect the liberation of Ukraine from all its territories by military means.

The day before, the head of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, noted that in the event of the annexation of Ukrainian territories, following the example of Crimea, negotiations with the head of the Kremlin will be impossible.
