The Serbian state protects its integrity, so it must respect the integrity of other countries, Aleksandar Vučić said.
Serbia will not recognize the results of illegal Russian “referendums” in the occupied parts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. This is what Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said, Reuters reports on Wednesday, September 28.
“Serbia does not recognize this referendum because it complies with international law, with the UN Charter and UN resolutions,” explained the Serbian head of state.
Note that Moscow supports Belgrade in its opposition to recognizing Kosovo’s independence. In addition, pro-Russian sentiments were widespread among the Serbs. However, Serbian authorities say they respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“We are protecting our own territorial integrity and it is in our interest to protect the territorial integrity of other internationally recognized countries,” added the president.
Ukraine also does not recognize Kosovo’s independence from Serbia.
As you know, Serbia aims to join the EU. However, its further integration with Europe is impossible without the ratification of sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
In addition, Vučić has previously said that he sees “signs of a world war” in the way Russia’s war against Ukraine is unfolding.
