Diplomat Christoph Heusgen believes that the creation of a consortium of countries that own this tank will solve the issue of their transfer to Kyiv.
Germany will be able to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine if it creates a consortium of countries that have this armored vehicle in their arsenal. Each of the countries will accept its own responsibilities and political responsibility for the deliveries. This was said by Christoph Heusgen in a comment to the Rheinische Post.
The diplomat called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to start supplying Leopard main battle tanks to Ukraine to counter Russian aggression. He added that “Ukrainians need this heavy weapon.”
According to him, a consortium of countries in the service of these German tanks will decide on the issue of their transfer to Kyiv and the training of the Ukrainian military.
“Then these countries can provide Leopard tanks, train Ukrainian soldiers in them and jointly provide maintenance of military equipment,” explained Heusgen.
It should be noted that the German media has already offered Germany to share the burden of providing Ukraine with armored vehicles by creating an appropriate tank consortium with 12 partners.
