Russia’s FSB detains Japanese consul for “collecting secret data”

A few hours later, a message appeared that the jailed Japanese diplomat had pleaded guilty to violating Russian law.

The Russian Federal Security Service detained Motoki Tatsunori, Consul of the Japanese Consulate General in Vladivostok. This was reported by the Russian propaganda agency RIA Novosti.

“The consul was detained while receiving limited information for money about the current aspects of Russia’s cooperation with one of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, the impact of the Western sanctions policy on the economic situation in the Primorsky Territory .Through diplomatic channels, the Japanese side protested, and the consul himself was declared persona non grata,” the statement said.

A few hours later, a message appeared that the jailed Japanese diplomat had pleaded guilty to violating Russian law.

Earlier, the FSB announced the arrest of a “Ukrainian spy” in Vladivostok.
