One of the allies in Europe, Serbia, dissociated itself from Russia. This country, “according to international law”, cannot accept the results of referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye.
This was stated by Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovich upon his return from the UN General Assembly.
He said that according to the UN Charter and the principles and norms of international law, Serbia does not recognize the results of the so-called “referenda” in the occupied Ukrainian territories.
On the other hand, it would be completely contrary to our national interests, our policy of maintaining territorial integrity and sovereignty and commitment to the principle of inviolability of borders, Selakovich was quoted at the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
Background
Serbs and Serbia are traditionally considered friends, partners and even “relatives” of Russians and Russia. Now it is also the fifth column in Europe, on which the Kremlin regime relies. Serbs like to draw parallels with the Russians, believing that they take on faith, history, culture, misfortunes. Moscow has always used this and continues these works further in its own interests, creating the image of the defender of the outcast Serbs and other Slavic peoples in the Balkans.
This allows the Serbs to behave quite impudently in the region, to irritate their neighbors, the European Union and the United States. This behavior is inherent in both Serbia and the Republika Srpska.
The current President Aleksandar Vučić has been repeatedly warned in the EU against double games, but he does not change anything in his foreign policy.
Since the launch of a full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine, Serbia has become the only EU candidate country that has refused to impose sanctions against Russia. Massive pro-Putin marches are taking place in Belgrade, and Serbian mercenaries continue to fight on the side of militants of fake quasi-formations.
At the same time, Serbia officially supports the integrity of Ukraine, did not recognize the annexation of Crimea, condemned the full-scale aggression against Ukraine in the UN General Assembly, and even accepted a small number of Ukrainian refugees. And some Serbs express their condolences to Ukraine and help the Ukrainians.
