The Republic of Poland will create a new territorial defense group to strengthen the protection of the state border.
In Poland, they decided to strengthen the troops protecting the state border. A new group, the Border Defense Component (KOP), will be created as part of the country’s defense forces. This was announced on Saturday, September 24, according to Ukrinform.
The decision to approve the concept of the creation of the KOP was signed by the Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak. According to him, the country may be attacked again so “one should play it safe.”
At the same time, the Polish minister emphasized that a war is going on in Ukraine, and Poland has previously faced hybrid aggression from Belarus.
“We have to be aware that this hybrid aggression against Poland has not stopped, and the Kremlin can use the difficult situation in North Africa and the Middle East to once again send people from these regions to the Belarusian border -Polish,” he said.
“Now they are talking about 10 military battalions in four border provinces – Podlasie, Warmian-Masurian, Lublin and Subcarpathian. The task of these units is to support the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Poland in protecting the country’s border,” he added.
The Polish Territorial Defense Forces was created as part of the Polish Armed Forces in 2017. It includes 18 brigades and more than 34,000 servicemen.
It should be noted that immediately after the announcement of the partial mobilization in Russia, Lithuania put its rapid reaction forces on high alert.
