Belarusian authorities have detained 35 people involved in the growing “case of orthopedic doctors”. Among those detained was a doctor who examined Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. This was announced on Monday, April 18, by Radio Svaboda and BelTA.
It was noted that orthopedists were held under article 430 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus Acceptance of bribes, and the case itself was connected with the supply of endoprostheses.
On April 18, Lukashenka heard a report from Health Minister Dmitry Pinevich, Prosecutor General Andrei Shved and Chairman of the State Security Committee Ivan Tertel.
This is the first time authorities have acknowledged the widespread arrest of doctors, almost a month after the first cases. At the same time, Lukashenka called the arrests an “operation.”
“I know very well the trend of this operation: I controlled it. It didn’t start today, not yesterday. I warned the Minister of Health about it. But now 35 people (are incarcerated). And I’m sure no one will stop me from here) that it’s not the only thing that should sit next to them there, ”Lukashenka said.
According to him, doctors for bribes from foreign companies advertise some imported prostheses to their patients.
“It’s unfortunate that the ‘president’s doctor’, who examined the president more than once, also got there. I’m upset by this fact, but the law is the law – it’s the same for everyone,” Lukashenka added. .
The first detentions of the doctors took place on March 26. On April 13, information emerged about the detention of three more people.
Earlier, in a conversation with Svaboda, Rustam Aizatulin, coordinator of the Belarusian Medical Solidarity Fund, called the actions of the security forces “envious and hypocritical activities aimed at showing that a security bloc is still needed in Belarus . “
