The diplomat worked in US diplomatic missions in a number of post-Soviet and Russian-speaking countries.
US President Joe Biden has nominated Lynn Tracy for the position of US Ambassador to Russia. On Tuesday, September 20, the White House reported.
He is currently the head of the American embassy in Armenia as a diplomat.
“Lynn M. Tracy is a senior Foreign Service Officer, Career Minister class, and current US Ambassador to Armenia,” the statement said.
After the nomination of a presidential candidate, it must be approved by the Senate, and then by Moscow.
The White House indicated that Tracy received a bachelor’s degree in Soviet studies (Soviet studies) and a doctorate in law. Prior to his trip to Yerevan, he was Senior Advisor for Russian Affairs in the US Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.
From 2014 to 2017, Tracy served as deputy head of the US diplomatic mission in Moscow (Jon Tefft was the ambassador at the time). He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia in the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (2012-2014) and US Deputy Ambassador to Turkmenistan (2010-2011).
Tracy could become the first woman to head the US diplomatic mission in Russia.
The duties of Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Moscow are now being performed by the Deputy Head of the US Mission to the Russian Federation, Elizabeth Rood.
Recall that the new ambassador of Ukraine to Germany will be a diplomat Oleksiy Makeev.
