NATO explains why they are not at war with Russia

War between the Russian Federation and the Alliance is possible only in direct confrontation. Aid to Ukraine is not such a factor, says Rob Bauer.

NATO is providing assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, but this does not mean that the Alliance is at war with the Russian Federation. The war will only start if Russia decides to attack one of the NATO member countries. This was said by the head of NATO’s military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, in an interview with ERR on Tuesday, September 20.

“No. NATO is not at war with Russia. I have to say this very clearly. If Russia attacked one of our member states, it would be absolutely clear, and we are trying to make it clear to Russia as clearly as possible, that “we will defend every inch of our ally’s territory. Then there will be a conflict between Russia and NATO. But until that moment, NATO is not at war with Russia,” he said.

It is very important that Ukraine remains a sovereign state, the military insists. According to him, only Ukraine can decide how the war will end.

“NATO, through its actions, supports Ukraine and Ukraine’s inalienable right to defend itself against a country that attacks it. This is written in the UN Charter. Therefore, it is legitimate that the members of NATO and more than 20 other countries support Ukraine. They support it in every way they can,” he summed up Bauer.

The United States, along with its allies, is discussing the possibility of providing Ukraine with air defense systems and fighter jets.
