A bright young star called IRAS 05506+2414 is surrounded by a shroud of dense gas and dust.

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured a young star located more than nine thousand light-years away in the constellation Taurus. This is reported on the website of the observatory.

The object, better known to astronomers as IRAS 05506+2414, is believed to be an example of an explosion caused by the collapse of a massive young star system. If so, this is only the second known example in the universe.

According to scientists, often the material surrounding a young star becomes a double stream of gas and dust from the star. However, in the case of IRAS 05506+2414, a fan-shaped stream of matter spreads out from the center of this image, moving at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per second.

It was previously reported that the image of the disintegration of Comet Leonard won the main prize of astronomical photography in 2022.
