The European Union is “developing smart mechanisms” that will allow oil to be included in the next package of sanctions.
The main points of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia are the banking system and energy. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with the newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
“We continue to consider the banking sector, especially Sberbank, which accounts for 37% of the banking sector in Russia. And, of course, we are talking about energy,”-said the head of the EC.
At the same time, he noted that the European Union is currently “developing smart mechanisms” that will allow oil to be included in the next package of sanctions.
According to von der Leyen, the main purpose of the EU restrictions imposed against Russia since its invasion of Ukraine is to reduce the revenue of the Russian authorities.
It was previously reported that the European Union would return to the issue of the oil embargo against Russia after April 24 – after the second round of presidential elections in France.
